M.Sc. Patrick Elsässer

Born in 06.10.1989 in Titisee-Neustadt

Doctoral student

Working area:

  • Design of non-noble metal anode and cathode catalysts for alkaline fuel cells
  • Design of BiVO4 photoanodes for photoelectrochemical water splitting

Topics of interest:

  • Electrocatalysis of non-noble metal catalysts
  • Advanced X-ray diffraction analysis (Rietveld, SAXS, GIXRD)
  • Synthesis and characterization of single and dual atom catalysts

Curriculum Vitae:

I received my B.Sc. degree in Chemistry on the topic of Fe-N-C catalysts for ORR with the Fischer group at the University of Freiburg (ALU). During my master studies, I did an internship of 8 month with the Mérida group at UBC in Vancouver studying the photoelectrochemical degradation of organic pollutants using semiconductors. Afterwards, I finished my M.Sc. degree in chemistry on the topic of Ni catalysts for hydrogen oxidation in alkaline media with the Fischer group at the ALU.

I am currently working on my PhD thesis in the Fischer group with a focus on synthesis and characterisation of non-noble metal anode and cathode catalysts for alkaline membrane fuel cells within the AlkaCell project.

In addition, I am researching BiVO4 photoanodes for photoelectrochemical water splitting and electrocatalysts for the nitrogen reduction reaction.
